Makassar, South Sulawesi (Antara Sulsel) - The Russian government and state-owned port operator Pelindo IV representing the Indonesian government have agreed to build a cold storage in South Sulawesi.
The facility will be built in the Nusantara Fish Terminal in this South Sulawesi capital, head of the provincial marine and fishery office Sulkaf S Latief said here on Wednesday.
The cold storage would be needed by both large and small fishermen, Latif said.
"The director general has confirmed that Russia and Pelindo IV already finalized cooperation agreement to build a cold storage here," he said.
Earlier, Marine and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said that Indonesia has opened wide opportunity for foreign investors to start business in fish processing industry bin the country.
Russia was among the first and most serious in investing in downstream fishery industry such as fish cold storage industry. It was even reported that Russia wanted to invest up to Rp2.6 trillion in the sector.
"The cold storage would contribute to development of fishery sector in the region, Latif said.
He said he already received requests to use the cold storage from local fishermen.
