West Sulawesi to Export 120,000 Tons of Cacao in 2011

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - West Sulawesi province has set itself the target of exporting 120,000 tons of cacao beans in 2011 through Belang-Belang port, the biggest in Mamuju district, West Sulawesi Governor Anwar Adnan said.

The governor said here on Saturday that so far West Sulawesi had been exporting cacao beans through the seaports of Makassar, South Sulawesi province, and Palu, Central Sulawesi.

West Sulawesi was annually producing 150,000 tons of cacao but cacao export consignments had to be shipped from the two other provinces because West Sulawesi's Belang Belang seaport was not yet ready to handle export goods.

"Exporting through the two other provinces `is of no benefit at all to West Sulawesi's regional government," he said.

Therefore, he said, the work to upgrade Belang Belang port in Mamuju would be completed in 2011 and be used for export import activities.(T.SYS/A014)
