Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Indian warship INS Ranjit has arrived at Soekarno-Hatta seaport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, for a joint exercise and tour.
"The Indian warship will also conduct logistics re-supplying while its crew visits several tourism sites in the region," Naval Base IV spokesman Major Darmawangsa said here on Saturday.
He added that the ship, a destroyer, measures 147 meters long, 15.8 meter wide, and it weighs 4,974 tons.
The Raiput Class Destroyer will be in Makassar for two days beginning March 10, he said.
The visit is also aimed at deepening the long-standing relationship between the two countries' navies.
Also, cooperation between the two navies has occurred in other areas, including joint patrol operations held annually in the Andaman Sea in Indonesia¿s western region.
The INS Ranjit (D53), led by Captain Punit Chadda, carried 320 crew members and departed from the Indian port in February 2012.
The INS Ranjit is scheduled to leave Makassar next Monday for Surabaya in East Java. It also plans to visit several other countries in Asia, including Malaysia and the Philippines.
"Besides promoting the longstanding cooperation in the military field, the Indian navy officers will also meet with Makassar city administration officials and visit several tourist sites to promote the regional administration's efforts to popularize tourism areas, especially in Makassari," he said.
