North Mamuju Posts 16.3 Percent Economic Growth

"The economic growth recorded by North Mamuju , more than doubling the country`s growth of only a little higher than 6 percent deserves high appreciation," Adnan said here on Sunday.

Mamuju, South Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulbar) - North Mamuju regency of West Sulawesi recorded a mind boggling economic growth of 16.3 percent amid the general slowdown in the country.

West Sulawesi Governor Anwar Adnan Saleh gave his appreciation for the big success recorded by the new regency, which was formerly part of the regency of Mamuju.

"The economic growth recorded by North Mamuju , more than doubling the country`s growth of only a little higher than 6 percent deserves high appreciation," Adnan said here on Sunday.

North Mamuju has recorded a leapfrogging progress since the split making it a separate regency.

The new regency has succeeded in creating many new jobs notably in the plantation sector attracting job seekers from other district, the governor noted.

He pointed to the sharp rise in the population of that district from 100,000 to 219,000 in a relatively short time.

He hoped that other regencies in West Sulawesi like Central Mamuju could follow in making such impressive growth.

Altogether, the province of West Sulawesi also recorded a strong growth of 13 percent over the past year or the highest in the country after Papua, he said. E Azly
