West Sulawesi To Build Airport In North Mamuju

"To make transportation access to the North Mamuju District easier, the provincial government decided to build a new airport in the region," the Governor said.

Mamuju, W Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulbar) - West Sulawesi provincial government will build an airport in North Mamuju District, Governor Anwar Adnan Saleh said here on Sunday.

"To make transportation access to the North Mamuju District easier, the provincial government decided to build a new airport in the region," the Governor said.

According to him, North Mamuju (Matra) district is far from the provincial capital of Mamuju or it takes about five hours to reach by land.

"North Mamuju can be reached within five hours by land, so airport is needed to shortened the distance," Anwar said.

The governor said he will make a proposal to the central government to finance the airport building starting 2014.

He also hoped that the airport will boost the flow of investment in the province.

Earlier, the West Sulawesi government had built a 1,500-meter runway in Mamasa District, which is located in the mountainous area of West Sulawesi.
