Sultan Hasanuddin Airport To Showcase South Sulawesi`s Attractions In Miniature

Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - The South Sulawesi Culture and Tourism Office and the state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I have agreed to recreate the province`s tourism attractions in miniature at the the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.

Local Culture and Tourism Office Head for Promotion and Marketing Devo Khaddafi stated here on Tuesday that replicas of the numerous sites featuring South Sulawesi`s tourism icons will be built in miniature form at the airport.

"At the Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, we have built a replica of a Pinisi traditional boat; a miniature of tongkonan, Tanah Toraja traditional house; and an extensive butterfly garden," Khaddafi remarked.

He noted that the butterfly garden at the Sultan Hasanuddin airport will be large enough to accommodate butterflies of different varieties from the Bantimurung habitat.

Dubbed as the "Kingdom of Butterflies" by British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace during his exploration of the area in 1957, the Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park has become a symbol of beauty and tranquility on Sulawesi Island.

Just 50 kilometers from the provincial capital of Makassar and even closer to the city`s Sultan Hasanudin International Airport, Bantimurung has long been established as a popular holiday destination for tourists and locals alike.

"We really want the visitors to witness the beauty of the butterflies, and therefore, the butterfly garden will lure them to see the natural habitat in Bantimurung," he pointed out.

In the meantime, PT Angkasa Pura I General Manager Akhmad Munir expressed full support to the promotion of South Sulawesi`s tourism sector.

"Angkasa Pura I is committed to supporting the tourism program in South Sulawesi as progress in the province`s tourism sector will also have a positive impact on Angkasa Pura as the operator of the Sultan Hasanuddin Airport," Munir noted.
