Makassar (Antara Sulsel) - South Sulawesi exported US$84 million worth of goods in August, up 15.5 percent from the previous month, the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.
"The increase was quite strong, more than 10 percent, from US$73.2 million in July, 2017," head of the provincial BPS Nursam Salam said here on Monday.
Demand rose for the major commodities of the province, while imports declined for a number of commodities, Nursam said.
"In August, 2017, exports of nickel, the main commodity of the province, were valued at US$50.54 million , up from US$46.85 million in July," he said.
The second main export commodities in August were food grains and medicinal herbs with exports valued at US$8.83 million.
Nursam said so far nickel and cacao had been the main export commodities from South Sulawesi.
