Makassar, S Sulawesi, Jan 26 (Antara) - The Consulate General of Australia in Makassar, South Sulawesi, will hold the 2018 Australia Indonesia Cinema Festival (FSAI) simultaneously in four major cities: Makassar, Jakarta, Surabaya (East Java), and Denpasar (Bali).
"The 2018 Cinema Festival will be simultaneously held in four major cities in Indonesia on January 27 and 28 in XXI studio," the Australian Consul General for East Indonesia, Richard Mathews, revealed here on Friday.
He said the 2018 FSAI is part of the Australian government`s efforts to enhance bilateral relations with Indonesia through art, culture, and films.
Mathews added that the two-day event, taking place at XXI Trans Studio Makassar, will feature works by filmmakers of the two countries.
He noted that the films to be screened are the latest films from Australia and Indonesia.
The festival will open with the premiere of an Indonesian film, "Melawan Takdir," which is a drama following the life of an Australian alumni from South Sulawesi, who is currently teaching at the State Islamic University. The movie script was written by Professor Hamdan Juhannis, and the film is being directed by Quraisy Mathar.
"The film `Against Destiny,` a drama about an Australian alumni from South Sulawesi who is now a professor, will open the festival, and the director and film writer will attend the premier in Makassar," he remarked.
Six Indonesian short films will also be screened at the 2018 FSAI as finalists of a short film competition. The winners of the competition will have the opportunity to visit the Melbourne International Film Festival this year.
The other latest Indonesian films that will be screened at the festival are Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts and Ali`s Wedding, which is a comedy about an Australian Muslim man.
Meanwhile, the Australian films to be featured include Dance Academy, a drama about a dancer; Red Dog: True Blue, a comedy about life in rural Australia; and Rip Tide, a story of a female surfer in Australia.
"This is the second time we are organizing FSAI in Makassar, and we are happy to support the work of alumni from Australia, especially those from East Indonesia, as well as to showcase famous films from Australia," Mathews pointed out. ***1***
