Makassar (Antaranews Sulsel) - The construction of a 110 kilometer rail track linking of Mandai in the district of Maros and Palanro in the district of Barru, in South Sulawesi is expected to be finished in 2019.

The 110 kilometer track is part of the first phase of the track of Trans Sulawesi Railway between Makassar and Parepare.

"Currently land clearing is in process in the district of Pangkep and Maros," head of the Division of Monitoring and Information Technology of Working Unit of Sulawesi Railway Affairs Arinova said in a report to acting governor of South Sulawesi Soni Sumarsono here on Monday.

Meanwhile, construction would start in November, 2018 for the Mandai-Palanro track, Arinova said.

Currently, the track that could be used for inspection train is only 16 kilometers, he said, adding,"in September, 50 km of the track would be ready trial run."

He said until June 8 construction work for 44 km first segment of the track to be built from Barru toward Parepare has been 83.26 percent completed falling short of the target of 86.24 percent.

The short fall in performance was caused by delay in land filling because of rain, he said.

"We are waiting for favorable weather to continue work," he said.

He said the construction of the Trans Sulawesi Railway project will continue in process financed under the cooperation scheme between the government and the private sedctor.

"So far there have been nine investors indicating interest including five foreign investors," he said. (AS)
