Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - South Sulawesi police had arrested ten people suspected of torching the Soppeng-based election commission offices on Friday.

The suspects were identified as W (29), H (49), D (43), A (40), H (36), S (43), A (29), F (41), K (39), and A (28), Deputy Chief of South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi police headquarters' detective division, Adjunct Senior Commissioner HA Azis Jamaluddin said.

The police accused them of having torched the election commission offices in Lalabata and Marioriwawo sub-districts, as well as those in Lalabata sub-district, he said.

All the suspects had been brought to the police stations for further investigation, he said.

The election commission and sub-district administrative offices were set on fire because they were disappointed with the results of the regional elections' temporary vote counts, he said.

The temporary result of the quick counts showed that the pair of incumbent head of Soppeng district Andi Soetomo were still higher than those of  their political rivals.

This reality made the backers of the  other candidates to become  angry. Some lost control and resorted to violence, he said.

The anger of Andi Kaswadi Razak-Andi Rizal Mappatunru duo's supporters might also be instigated by a bitter argument between this pair's witnesses and the election authorities at a voting booth.

The war of words happened because the witnesses found that ballot boxes had no registration numbers. Therefore, the witnesses refused to attend the ballot counting process.
