Pinrang, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Floods have isolated at least 485 houses at Baba Binanga Baru and Cilellang villages, Cempa sub district, Pinrang District, South Sulawesi Province, since Wednesday.

The flooding was caused by incessant downpours which had fallen over the past few days, according to Waris, Cilellang village chief, here Friday.

A Saddang river dike got burst after being hit by the floodwaters in Cempa sub district.

Hundreds of hectares of corn fields,  hundreds of houses, school buildings, and a community health post, were submerged in Slipolo village.

Flood victims residing nearby the burst dike were evacuated to a safer area and they might later be relocated, as their neighborhoods were flooded at a height up to one meter, Waris said.

"In the near future, we will relocate the flood victims living near the destroyed dike, otherwise they will be in danger," the village head said.

Relief aid for the flood victims at Baba Binangan baru village are expected to be delivered Friday (Aug 6), as the previous relief assistance had been distributed to flood-affected villages of Katomporang, Duampanua sub distric, according to Matalatta, the Pinrang district disaster mitigation office chief.

Meanwhile, floods triggered by incessant rains since Wednesday evening have also reportedly inundated houses, office and school buildings in most parts of Gorontalo City, northern Sulawesi.

The floods also caused panic among local residents as the flood watershed invaded their houses, Mansur, a resident  of Buladu, Gorontalo, said here Friday.

Heavy rains had fallen since Wednesday evening and caused flooding in most part of Gorontalo. 

"I never thought that a flood could hit our neighborhood," said Rustam Adiko, a resident of Huangobotu,  expressing his surprise as the area had never seen flooding before.

Hundreds of hectares of paddy fields around the capital of Gorontalo Province were also submerged and the main roads were paralyzed, forcing some shopping centers to close.
