Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Makassar's Immigration Office in hunting a number of illegal immigrants who escaped from the Bolangi immigration detention center in Goa district.

The Immigration Office spokesman Harry Dwilaksono said here on Tuesday that supported by Makassar police, immigration officials were currently hunting the escaped illegal immigrants.

But Harry admitted that he had yet to obtain official data on the number of the illegal immigrants who had escaped from the Bolangi detention center in Goa.

"We have yet to obtain data on the number of the escaped illegal immigrants and their country of origin but the search should continue after we got the information from Makassar police," Harry said.

He added that the escaped immigrants were being hunted at several locations believed to be their hideout at Takalar district forest area.

Harry said the escaped illegal immigrants' country of origin has yet to be known but based on experience most of them at Bolangi detention center are from the Middle East countries.

"Most of them are for conflict countries in the Middle East, and thus it is not very difficult for us to identify them because they have typical characteristic and stature," Harry said.

He said that if they were captured, they would be handed again to the management of Bolangi detention center in Goa district to decide further action against them.

According to Harry, the illegal immigrants at the immigration detention center in Goa were not detainees because they were entrusted by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) because of conflict at their country of origin. (O001/HAJM)
