Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Investment in the hotel business in Makassar had been predicted to grow to Rp400 billion entering the forthcoming tourist visit year.

Chairman of the South Sulawesi Association of Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI) Anggiat Sinaga estimated in Makassar Tuesday that total investment in hotels next year will increase to Rp400 billion with 1,200 more rooms.

"The investment increased with the assumption that investment will reach Rp350 - Rp400 million per room," Anggiat said.

He said Makassar has now a total of 4,833 hotel rooms which is estimated still to be enough for this year's Christmas and New Year celebrations.

"If the number of hotel rooms would be realized next year, it will meet the increased needs of hotel rooms in Makassar," he said.

The hotel room occupation rate will reach 100 percent, both at star-rated and ordinary hotels, with rates depending on the type of hotels.

He also asked the hotels and restaurants to offer entertainments without violating the law and regulations, including religious rules, and maintaining law and order during the year-end celebrations.

By way of the Visit Makassar Year (VMY) 2011 program, he hoped everybody could make a success of the events.

"The regional administrations and people need to change their mindset on the face of the city which is known to be anarchic, into a destination of tourists," he said.(T.SYS/H-YH)
