Mamuju, West Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulbar) - The provincial administration of West Sulawesi said it hopes to boost its exports by promoting trade with China.

West Sulawesi governor Anwar Adnan Saleh said on Friday, the provincial administration has reached an agreement with China in economic cooperation.

"I have been to China to study the cooperation and had reached an agreement with the Chinese government to establish sea transport to support trade," Anwar said.

The port of Belang Belang of Mamuju will be used for export import trade with China and the port of Tianjin will serve for the same purpose in that country, he said.

The distance between the two port is relatively short, taking only three days for a ship to reach Tianjin from the port of Belang Belang, he said.

The shipping route will facilitate exports especially agricultural products from West Sulawesi to China, he said.

He said currently the port of Belang Belang of Mamuju is now being modernized to serve as an international port.

Currently the port has a a quay of 101 meters long and 15 meters wide . A Saragih/Bustanuddin
