Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - A fire razed 24 semi-permanent houses in Mariso and Layang, Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Friday but there was no immediate report of casualties.

The fire started at one of the houses at 03.50 p.m. local time and spread to other buildings, eyewitnesses said.

Fire fighters managed to put out the blaze about two hours by deploying 19 fire trucks, including three from the regional drinking water company.

The head of the fire department said the fire was believed to have been caused by a short circuit.
