Makassar (ANTARA) - This October, six student volunteers (Stuvo) from the International Office (IO), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) were selected as Liaison Officers (LO) and Supporting Staff (SS) in the ASEAN High-Level Forum on Disability-Inclusive Development and Partnership Beyond 2023.

The Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia organized the event as a series of ASEAN Chairmanship 2023 by Indonesia for three days at the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton, Makassar, Indonesia.

Additionally, the event was attended by 300 delegates of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting for Social Welfare and Development (AMMSWD) and Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (SOMSWD) from all ASEAN Countries alongside the United States of America, United Kingdom, and Australia.

The successfully selected Stuvo were Ibnu Alif Daffa Gymnastiar as an LO for Singapore delegation, Fiorella Lie as an LO for the Philippines Delegation, Gilang Nurjihad as an LO for Timor Leste Delegation, Nurul Fathanah as an LO for ASEAN Disability Forum Delegation, Muhammad Farid as Person in Charge (PIC) in Exhibition, and Muhammad Indra as PIC US-ASEAN High-Level Dialogue. They were chosen after a rigorous selection process through essays and interviews.

Before starting their assignments, they went through various technical guidance online and offline for ten days. During the training, they were taught how to communicate with people with disabilities using sign language, provide first aid, and learn the dynamics of foreign relations in Southeast Asia.

Afterward, they immediately went into action according to their respective tasks optimally. Those who became Liaison Officers were responsible for providing complete assistance to the delegates from the beginning to the end of the event.

As for the PICs, they were in charge of their respective responsibilities to ensure that the activities were carried out correctly.

The output of this event was the Makassar recommendation, which serves as a reference for foreign and domestic policies for ASEAN countries to collaborate and commit to improving the inclusiveness of aspects of life, especially for people with disabilities.
