Makassar, S.Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - India has expressed keenness to improve cooperation and partnership, especially in the economic sector, with the administration of South Sulawesi Province, Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Gurjit Singh stated here on Friday.

"We are interested in establishing cooperation in the economic sector, as South Sulawesi`s economy is currently growing at a rapid pace, and there are several opportunities for both parties to work together," he affirmed.

He noted that India`s investment in Indonesia has reached US$15 billion, but it has yet to invest in South Sulawesi.

"We will bring a delegation of Indian businesspersons to meet the South Sulawesi administration and the entrepreneurs to explore opportunities," Singh emphasized.

The Indian Embassy will make the necessary preparations, so that the meeting between Indian entrepreneurs and South Sulawesi`s administration and businesspersons can be held this year.

According to Singh, agriculture and pharmacy are the two potential areas for establishing cooperation.

"Currently, India imports agricultural products from the province. We want to enhance this cooperation, so that South Sulawesi`s agricultural products such as cashews and cocoa can meet the required criteria set by the Indian entrepreneurs," he pointed out.

Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi Agus Arifin Nu`mang said the two sides will make preparations to organize the meeting between the business delegations of both parties.

"We will also soon make preparations, so that the business-to-business meeting can be organized," he stated.

Nu`mang also welcomed the potential for cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, as there is a 1:10 difference in the prices of drugs between India and Indonesia.

The regulations related to the import of drugs depend on the policy of the government, he added.
