Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - Rescue workers have found the bodies of 12 people who were killed in a landslide in Wara Barat district, Palopo, South Sulawesi, on Monday, Palopo Mayor HAP Tenriadjeng said.

Tanriadjeng, when contacted from Makassar on Tuesday, said that the two of the 12 bodies were found on Tuesday in the landslide location while another one died in a hospital.

He said that the rescue team was still working heard to search for four more missing victims, who were believed to be buried by muds and avalanches.

A total of 15 houses were totally ruined after they were hit by sliding big rocks which fell of a hill. Tens of others were heavily or lightly damaged.

About 210 families or about 1,050 villagers from three hamlets in Battang Barat village, which were hit by the landslides, are now evacuated to emergency refugee tents, Tenriadjeng said.

The three hamlets hit by the landslides on Monday were Pate'ne, Paredean and Puncak. The landslides occurred following torrential rains which showered the areas on Monday.

Palopo regional government has set up command posts and emergency tents to accommodate evacuees. Some victims were also accommodated at mosques and school buildings.
