Mamuju (ANTARA News) -  The West Sulawesi provincial administration has made a projection that the area will become self-sufficient in soybean by 2014.

Head of the production means division of the West Sulawesi agriculture and cattle breeding agency Supriyatno said here Wednesday that the projection is an effort of the local administration to expand the agriculture sector in the area.

He said that the local administration wished that the province will become self-sufficient in soybean by 2014, because the soybean output of the region was still not enough to meet the needs of the area of more than one million people.

He said the potential of soybean farming in the area is quite high with land reaching 12,000 hectares and a production of 1,000 tons per year. (H-NG/S012)
