Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has asked the government to revive Bank Pembangunan Indonesia (development bank) to support the development of economic infrastructures in the country.

Since the bank was merged into Bank Mandiri a few years ago, there had practically been no bank focusing on extending loans to develop the country's infrastructure facilities, Kadin Chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto said when closing the chamber's national leadership meeting here on Sunday.

"Therefore, the meeting of all regional chambers of commerce and industry recommends that the bank be revived to carry out its function as it was," he said.

He said Bank Pembangunan Indonesia had development vision, including economic infrastructures and thus, the presence of the bank would help economic players who were in dire need of adequate infrastructures.

Development bank like Bank Pembangunan Indonesia was different from other types of banks which had so far focused on extending short-term loans for micro businesses and working capital, he said.

"We are in dire need of a bank which focuses on extending long-term loans carrying low interest," he said.

It would be very good if each province in the country had such a development bank to boost their economic growth, he said. (S012/a014)
