Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - The governors of five provinces in Sulawesi Island have expressed their support for the reelection of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Jusuf Kalla (JK) as president and vice president in the poll on July 8, 2009.

The support was voiced at in the Sulawesi regional development plan congress taking place here on Tuesday.

Central Sulawesi Governor Bandjela Paliudju when attending the conference's opening ceremony said the SBY-JK pair had been able to improve the welfare of the people, especially those in Sulawesi, during their five-year term.

"The present president and vice president should continue their leadership," Paliudju said.

The five governors' recommendation was also expected to be received by the Golkar Party whose electoral standing had significantly dropped compared to its position in 2004, he said.

Meanwhile, Southeast Sulawesi Governor Nur Alam was of the view that both Golkar and the Democratic Party should not engage in an experiment by changing the national leadership.

"We are worried that a national leadership change will alter a number of strategic policies which have proven effective in lowering the the poverty rate," Nur Alam said.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the current president, is the chairman of the Democratic Party's Advisory Board, and Jusuf Kalla, the vice president, is the chairman of the Golkar Party executive board.
