Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - State enterprises minister Dahlan Iskan said actually the state-owned companies in Indonesia should not depend on the state budget in effort to run the companies.

"The certain state-run companies should no longer receive fund from the state budget (APBN), because a lot of the state-run firms (BUMN) that obtained fund from the state budget, the fund given only spoil the companies management," the minister said during a seminar at the Hasanuddin University here on Sunday.

According to him, several companies among other things PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines and pawnshop have shown their independence.

"Thus, I asked them not to depend on the state budget. If they cannot survive, just die, and Indonesia will not suffer from bankruptcy," he asserted.

Now, however, PT Merpati Airline has improved," Dahlan disclosed.

In addition, Dahlan also talked about sugar producing companies in several locations, one of them is in Takalar district, South Sulawesi, which is still undeveloped.

Meanwhile, Bone and Camming sugar makers in Sulawesi have shown their development after restructuring their management, he said.

"This year sugar producing firms should obtain profit. Don't blame the old engines and lack of fund, but good management must be able to seek the solution," he noted.

On the occasion, Dahlan mentioned the Bank BRI and Bank Mandiri and cement producer PT Semen Gresik which attained global qualification.

 The minister also mentioned the state-owned banks which are still facing difficulties to run banking business abroad. On the other hand, however, a lot of foreign banks have dealt with businesses in Indonesia, Dahlan added.
