Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - The Indonesian immigration personnel detained 76 illegal immigrants of Myanmarese Rohingya in South Sulawesi provincial district of Sinjai.

They were arrested by police in Sinjai, in two different locations on Saturday (July 7), the local police said here on Monday.

According to the police, 49 of the 76 immigrants were found hidden in a residential house in Sereng hamlet, Duanpanuae village, Bulupoddo subdistrict, Sinjai district.

Police then nabbed the other immigrants in Kampala hamlet, East Sinjai.

The illegal immigrants were then brought to Makassar Immigration office, police said, adding that some of the immigrants could speak in Malay language.

In addition, police also arrested three Indonesian citizens, who allegedly assisted the illegal immigrants, one of them was wife of one of the immigrants, one was Udding, home owner who accommodated the immigrants, and Are as a guide.

Meanwhile, head of Makassar Immigration office, Tegas Hartawan said that his office was still checking their documents. Bustanuddin/Yosef
