Makassar (ANTARA) - Laode M. Syarif, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), was invited to be a speaker in the "Experts Meeting on Measuring Grand Corruption and Reducing Its Power" at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AMACAD), the USA, on May 18–20, 2023.

The event invited academic experts from Oxford, Leiden, Yale, Ottawa, Sussex, Dalhoussie, Chicago, Carleton, Lund, and UNHAS.

On top of that the event was also attended by highly reputation practitioners: Richard Goldstone (South African Constitutional Court Judge and Chair of the IACC Treaty Drafting Committee), Judge Mark Wolf, (Former Prosecutor, Judge, and now teaches at Harvard and founder of the International Anti-Corruption Court ), Lloyd Axworthy (Chair of the World Refugee & Migration Council), Slagjana Taseva (former President of the Macedonian Anti-Corruption Commission).

Besides that, Allan Rock (former Chancellor of the University of Ottawa, Canadian Ambassador to the UN, and Canadian Minister of Justice), Alexandra Haberson (Integrity Vice Presidency of the World Bank), and Ian Lynch (Program Director of Integrity Initiative International).

AMACAD was founded in 1780 to honor the founders of every field of science and art for discovering new ideas and finding solutions to problems faced by humans and the universe.

Mr. Syarif was the Commissioner for Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK), or Indonesia Anti-Corruption Commission, for the period of 2015–2019 and presently serves as the Executive Director of Partnership for Governance Reform (Kemitraan).

In this expert meeting, he was appointed to do research on "corruption in natural resource management".

Moreover, Mr. Syarif is entrusted with gathering support from several countries in Southeast Asia to establish the International Anti-Corruption Court (IACC), which has been supported by the governments of Canada and the Netherlands.
