Makassar (ANTARA) - Hasanuddin University's Office of International Affairs held the 2023 International Cultural Program (ICP) with the theme "Maritime Culture of South Sulawesi," which took place from June 14 to 21, 2023. The activity took place in two main locations, namely the Unhas Campus and PPLH Puntondo, Takalar Regency.

A total of 47 participants from 22 countries were given lectures on the cultural life of maritime communities and also conducted field activities to directly observe maritime communities in Takalar, ranging from seaweed cultivation to coastal community life.

In her speech, Dr. Andi Masyitha Irwan, S. Kep., Ns., MAN., Ph.D., expressed her welcome to the participants. She said ICP was present as a medium to recognise other cultures.

"Through ICP, the participants will gain insight and knowledge by studying the culture of the community. You will be introduced in general to Unhas, and we hope that after participating in this activity, there will be good stories told when returning to their respective countries, "explained Masyitha.

The activity was officially opened by the Secretary of the University, Prof. Ir. Sumbangan Baja, M.Phil., Ph.D. In his remarks, he expressed his appreciation for the continuous implementation of ICP every year. He hopes that this activity can go well and that the participants can get new information and knowledge about Unhas and South Sulawesi culture.

Jamaluddin Fitrah Alam, Chairman of the Committee, explained that in this activity, the participants were generally introduced to maritime culture, ranging from livelihoods to the lives of coastal communities. In this activity, Jamaluddin said the participants gained knowledge and information about mangroves, seaweed cultivation, and the life of the surrounding community.

"Today we divided the participants into three groups with several activities, including cooking processed seaweed and directly observing the surrounding community. The participants actively participated in the activities, and a lot of knowledge was received by the participants," Jamaluddin explained.

This year, there were 47 participants from 22 countries, such as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Chile, Egypt, Honduras, India, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, and Vietnam.
