Makassar (ANTARA Sulsel) - Four regional legislators have been named suspects in the corruption case that caused a state loss of Rp8.8 billion in social aid fund in 2008.
"From the beginning we have said that we would get to the root of the case and based on facts that surfaced during the court investigations and other evidence we named four new suspects in the case," Gerry Yasid, a prosecutor from the Makassar high prosecution office, said.
The four new suspects include Abdul Kahar Gani and Adil Patuare, members of the South Sulawesi legislative assembly and Mustagfir Sabry and Mujiburrahman, members of the Makassar city council.
The evidence is sufficient for the indictment of the four suspects, Gerry said here on Wednesday.
"We still continue investigation of the case. It is possible there are more suspects. The case is still in the process of investigation," he said.
He said the four legislators were named suspects not because of pressure or intervention from any quarter.
"We are only doing our duty of upholding the law and seeking to eradicate corruption," he said.
Anwar Beddu, a provincial treasurer was already sentenced to two years` imprisonment and the provincial secretary Andi Mualim was named suspect in the same case.
