Pinrang, South Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - President Joko Widodo tried his hand at harvesting rice during a visit to Barang Palie village in the district of Pinrang, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday afternoon.

Around one thousand villagers, many of them carrying digital cameras or smartphones to click pictures, flocked to Barang Palie to see their new President.

Hasna, a villager from Langa in the sub-district of Matiro Sompe, around five kilometers from the location, said she had specifically come to see the event along with her neighbors.

"There are many of them. They all want to have a look at Pak (Mr) Jokowi," she added.

President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, was in the midst of some 2,500 hectares of rice fields for around 45 minutes.

On the occasion, the President also took an opportunity to operate a rice huller.

After visiting the village, President Jokowi and his entourage, including First Lady Iriana, returned to Sidrap from where they flew to Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi, on a helicopter.

President Jokowi was inaugurated on October 21. He replaced former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono following his victory in the presidential election on July 9.

This was his second tour of a region in the country, after his recent visit to meet the people who had been displaced by eruptions from Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra.  Penerjemah : Bessr/A Abdussalam
