Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - Three figures have emerged to be strong candidates to replace Din Syamsuddin as chief of one of Indonesia`s biggest Islamic organizations Muhammadiyah ahead of its congress scheduled here on August 3-7, 2015.

The three figures are Prof Dr Syafiz A Mugni (currently Muhammadiyah associate executive chairman and alumni of University of California and Persis boarding school), Dr Haedar Nashir (Muhammadiyah association executive chairman and alumni of state Gajahmada University) and Dr Abdul Mu`thi (secretary of Muhamadiyah`s central executive board and alumni of Flinders University, Australia), the secretary of the East Java chapter, Najib Hamid MSi, said on the sidelines of a workshop for online registration for the 47th Muhammadiyah congress and 47th Aisyiyah Congress at Muhammadiyah University here on Sunday.

"Pak (Mr) Syafiq has internal as well as external networks. Mas (Brother) Mu`thi meanwhile is young and energetic and Pak Haedar has so far been able to maintain the organization to remain strong from within," he said.

Najib Hamid said that the election of the new general chairman of the organization is the prerogative of 13 formers who are chosen from 39 names in a special meeting held ahead of the congress from a pre-congress and therefore succession in the organization has never been interesting to watch.

"We hope the congress this time will not be a mere meeting but will boost Muhammadiyah movement," he said.

Najib Hamid said besides electing the organization`s new leadership the congress is also aimed at evaluating the organization`s current programs and planning its future programs.

From a cultural point of view the event is a festival for Muhammadiyah, he added.
