Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - The city administration of Makassar will start building a 70-kilometer toll road in the South Sulawesi capital in 2017.

Thew toll road project is planned to reduce traffic, which is getting worse from year to year, the city mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto said here on Wednesday.

The plan has been drafted since 2015 in the coastal area as part of the waterfront city concept, Ramdhan said.

The project will cost around Rp20 trillion or Rp250 billion per kilometer, he said.

He said the cost will include land clearing, adding the project would use only little people`s land.

"Most of the lands to be used for the projects are owned by the state that the cost could be saved," he said, adding,"We would use state land for the project."

He said the project would be financed by investors.

"Implementation of the project is expected to be smooth as it would not used much privately owned land. Normally land clearing is the main drag in infrastructure project," he said.

He said traffic jams are already bad in the city , adding, he had discussed the problem with South Sulawesi governor to seek approval from the central government.

The central government already gave initial approval for the project.
