Gowa, South Sulawesi (Antara Sulsel) - The Gowa district government in South Sulawesi Province has positively welcomed the scheduled arrival of the Rotary Club International members to hold a national jamboree in Malino in October 2017.

"We are very grateful for Malino being selected as the venue for the national jamboree, as it will help the government of Gowa District to help realize Malino as a great city and to also support the Beautiful Malino Program, which will help to transform the city into a tourist destination in South Sulawesi Province," Gowa District Head Adnan Purichta Ichsan remarked here on Tuesday.

Ichsan said the provincial government has planned to develop tourist attractions to draw domestic and foreign tourists to Malino District to improve the welfare of the community.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla, South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo, and Gowa District Head Adnan Puritcha Ichsan have agreed to optimally develop tourism in Malino.

The agreement was reached when the three figures had visited Malino, some 90 kilometers from the Makassar city center, early this month.

According to the dignitaries, Malino City will be divided into the Asian, American, African, and European Australian zones.

All zones will be developed according to the distinctive features of the floral and plant species of each continent.

Malino is considered strategic to be developed, as it has several attractions, ranging from the cool climatic conditions to its historic significance for always being the location for holding peace talks.

In addition, Malino has various tourist destinations and supporting infrastructure that is ready to be developed into tourist destinations aimed at attracting local and international tourists.

While travelling from Makassar City to Malino, visitors will be able to witness a pine forest scenery and beautiful limestone range.

Situated at an altitude of 1,050 meters above sea level, the temperature in Malino varies between 10 and 26 degrees Celsius, and hence, the visitors are recommended to bring along jackets and warm clothing.

Malino has several scenic waterfalls, such as the Air Terjun Seribu Tangga, or the thousand stairs waterfall, and Takapala Waterfall.
