Makassar, S.Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in cooperation with Nanchang University of China under the auspices of the Chinese government signed an agreement on the opening of a Mandarin Language Center here Wednesday.

The agreement was signed by the rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof Dr Idrus A Paturusi and Patrick Lay representing Nanchang University of China. Also on hand at the event was Unhas's Vice Rector IV, Prof.Dr.Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu,MA.

The launching of the Mandarin Language Center will be held on February 2011 in Makassar. As many as 20 delegates from China were slated to visit South Sulawesi along with an arts and cultural group, Prof. Dwia said.

"This is in line with the Makassar city administration's Visit to Makassar Program which was launched in Jakarta last week," she added.

Under this partnership, Hasanuddin university will receive Mandarin teachers from Nanchang University, who would be under the auspices of the China government. The two universities would also deal with student exchange program, study and cultural tours, trainings as well as seminars, she noted.

According to her, the Mandarin Study Center may open for students, job seekers and also businessmen who are interested in learning Mandarin. Hasanuddin university would organize schools and teachers who are eager to learn China's language and its culture through the Mandarin Language Center. (T.KR-LWA/HAJM)
