Makassar (ANTARA) - The International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) held a general lecture by the University of Szeged under the title of “Pilgrimage Tourism”.

This general lecture was conducted in collaboration with the Tourism Destination Vocational Program, Undergraduate Tourism Study Program, and Master in Tourism Planning.

The general lecture was held in the Faculty of Vocational Study Meeting Room on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

The general lecture was also conducted in a hybrid way, as vocational students were mostly in Selayar island.

The general lecture started with a welcome remark by Prof. Sumbangan Baja, UNHAS Secretary.

He explained the UNHAS initiative in establishing the tourism program in his statement. It began with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Regency of Selayar Island in 2021. UNHAS saw the potential of tourism in Selayar. Therefore, the program was established.

In the first year, UNHAS welcomed 20 students, all based on the island. The following year, 25 students were accepted; some came from other islands in Indonesia, such as Sumatra and Java.

Prof. Sumbangan continued his remark and hoped that both universities may have established a collaboration in developing tourism programs.

After the remark, Prof. Bertalan Pusztai, the Head of the Tourism and Catering Bachelor Program at the University of Szeged University, mainly explained pilgrimage tourism and its examples in different religions like in Islam, a pilgrimage to Ka’bah in Mecca Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and other measures of different faiths.
