Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - The Makassar high prosecution office said it is investigating possible corruption at the city state hospital (RSUD).

There are indication of corruption in the procurement of health equipment worth Rp3.9 billion, Chaerul Amir, a senior prosecutor of the Makassar high prosecution office, said here on Friday.

"The types of equipment already procured are not as ordered in specifications and the prices are too expensive," Chaerul Amir, a senior prosecutor of the Makassar high prosecution office, said.

The prosecution office received reports from the people of alleged corruption in the procurement of the equipment with regional budget, Chaerul said.

Investigators have conducted initial investigation and found indication of prices being inflated causing loss to the state fund, he said, giving no figure.

"We have been looking into the case for two weeks and in such short time we have found strong indication of corruption," he said.

He said the procurement project was split into two involving two companies with the first part awarded toCV Mandiri Alkesindo to cost Rp2.7 billion, and the second to CV Berkat valued at Rp1.2 billion.

The contracts were for the procurement of 47 items of health equipment including beds, medical equipment for the intensive care unit unit (ICU), emergency installation, etc.
