Makassar (ANTARA) - As the Palestinian and Israeli conflict has been increasingly showing an escalation that has led to humanitarian disasters in which thousands of Palestinians became victims, primarily children and innocent civilians.
Mahasiswa Pecinta Mushallah (MPM) or Mushallah Lovers Students, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), a student activity unit engaged in Islamic religion, initiated the holding a Palestinian solidarity action.
The Director of Student Affairs and Career Preparation, UNHAS, Abdullah Sanusi, PhD., the Head of the International Office (IO), Andi Masyitha Irwan, PhD., and in collaboration with the International Student Association, international students, especially from Palestine joined in this action.
The Secretary of IO, Muhammad Ridwan, MA, accompanied the group in echoing this action. The move was held during the Car Free Day (CFD) that caught the attention of many sport goers and street sellers on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from UNHAS entrance up to the front of UNHAS Hotel and Convention.
In their orations, the students tried to raise public awareness of what is currently happening in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
They encouraged them to consider the current situation by donating their money.
One of the students even gave the analogy that the people of UNHAS might be able to breathe fresh air from the green trees around campus, but when compared to people in Gaza, every second, they can only breathe dust and the boom of bombs launched by the Israeli Zionist army.
They also showed bank accounts in which people might have been able to donate.
According to Mr. Sanusi, the donation collected today would be distributed to Palang Merah Indonesia (PMI) or the Indonesian Red Cross.
The IO itself urged to stop the bombing and prioritize a ceasefire to avoid more victims, especially innocent children and women.
In addition, as part of IO's concerns and stance towards the rights of the Palestinian people, the IO would organize a Geography Series featuring Palestine, which would be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
This action ended at the same time as the UNHAS CFD closed.
