Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - State-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina has denied it will restrict the time of transactions of subsidized diesel oil in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"The time restriction on the purchase of subsidized diesel oil based on a circular of the head of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulator (BPH MIgas) is not effective in Sulawesi. Consumers in Sulawesi still could buy subsidized diesel oil as usual," Ibnu Adiwena, customer relations officer of Pertamina`s Regional Marketing Operation VII (MOR VII), said here on Sunday.

It has widely reported that the Pertamina MOR VII will begin restricting the time of transactions of its subsidized diesel oil in Makassar at between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. local time from August 4, 2014.

He said that he had never issued a statement that the time restriction policy would also be imposed in the operation area of his office.

The time restriction mentioning that subsidized diesel oil will only be sold at between 8.0 a.m and 6.0 p.m is not applied in Sulawesi but in Java Island, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Bali.

"We will sell subsidized diesel oil as usual. There is no time restriction. The time restriction only applied in Sumatra, Java, Bali and Kalimantan," Ibnu said.

He said that the sale of subsidized diesel at refilling stations in certain clusters in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Bali is restricted from 8.0 a.m to 6.0 p.m.

The restriction is focused on clusters in industrial areas, plantation, mining and areas near ports which are prone to abuse of diesel oil.

Reports quoting Ibu earlier said that Pertamina MOR VII will impose the policy in Makassar as of August 4, 2014.

"The restriction will be carried out based on the policy of BPH Migas," Ibnu Adiwena was quoted as saying on Friday.

He said that the policy had been formulated as an anticipatory step to prevent excessive consumption that would exceed 48 million kiloliters in 2014.

In cooperation with other state-owned companies, Pertamina has also restricted the use of subsidized fuels by government-owned vehicles, diverting them to consume non-subsidized fuels. A Abdussalam
