Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - Saudi Arabia (Saudia) Airlines started regular flights between Makassar and Madinah, marked with the landing of a Saudia Airlines SV2078 aircraft at the international airport of Hasanuddin in this South Sulawesi capital city.

"There would be direct flight from Makassar to Madinah every Wednesday and Saturday," Saudia Airlines Country Manager Indonesia Marwan M. Altoumah said here on Wednesday.

The new route is to serve mainly minor hajj pilgrimage from Makassar.

Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia Osamah Mohammed al-Shuibi said the new route of Saudia Airlines between Madinah to Indonesia is the fourth.

"Earlier the airline already opened regular flights to Madinah, from Jakarta, Surabaya, and Medan," the ambassador said.

Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi Agus Arifin Nu`mang expressed appreciation for the opening of the new route of the Saudi airline saying with the direct flight to Madinah hajj pilgrims would not be too tired if they have to go to Jakarta first.
