Makassar, S Sulawesi (Antara Sulsel) - The Federation of Karate-do Indonesia (Forki) has sent 11 karateists to the Asian Karatedo Federation championship scheduled to be held from July 9 to 16 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The coach of the national team, Mursalim Badoo, said here on Wednesday that the athletes hailed from various regions in the country such as North Sumatra, Jakarta, Banten, West Java, East Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi.

"All athletes are selected based on their achievements made at the Southeast Asian championship earlier," he added.

The 11 karateists are David Rehendra Ahmad Firdaus (men`s singles cadet), Rezqy Dinda Amaliah Ichwan (women`s singles cadet), Muhammad Besnuh Billy Bilmona (+70 kilogram men`s kumite cadet), Wahyu Mukti Wijaya (-55 kilogram men`s junior kumite), Rafi Diaz Nugraha (76 kilogram men`s junior kumite), Dwi Fadillah (women`s -50 kilogram U-21 kumite), Ceyco Georgia Zefanya (-68 kilogram U-21 women`s kumite), Muhammad Tegar Januar (-55 kilogram U-19 men`s kumite), Febi Ramadhan (-84 kilogram U-21 men`s kumite), Detrina Sabda Nugraha (men`s U-21individual), and Krisfa Putri Aprillia (women`s U-21 individual).

Besides the achievements made at the Southeast Asian championship, the athletes were also chosen based on Forki`s monitoring.

Forki has monitored athletes who have international records, such as winning a gold medal at the AKF 2016 or silver at the WKF (world championship) 2017.

"Therefore, the athletes in the national team would be the best players at SEAKF, AKF, and WKF championships earlier. In essence, the athletes would have a lot of experience competing at international levels," he added.
