Makassar (ANTARA) - DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) Germany, in collaboration with the International Office (IO) held an Info Session: Masters and Doctoral in Germany to the academic community of Hasanuddin University on Friday, May 26, 2023.

The info session was moderated by Prof. Faizal Samman, a DAAD scholarship recipient currently working as lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering (FT), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS).

On this occasion, Dr. Guido Schnieders (Director of the DAAD Regional Office Jakarta) gave several reasons why Germany is one of the places for developing collaborative research and further education.

Guido said Germany has advantages in research and teaching supported by a safe location with economic stability and various university choices. In Germany, there are several types of higher education institutions, such as universities specializing in applied sciences to colleges of music, art, and film.

“The education system in Germany consists of undergraduate, postgraduate, and advanced postgraduate research. Where the degree received gets international recognition. In the lecture process, the language of instruction is generally English, although sometimes German is also used," explained Guido.

Furthermore, Guido also provided an overview of the DAAD scholarship and funding program, which consists of individual scholarships, project funding to support the internationalization of higher education structures, and the European Union mobility program.

DAAD is a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service, one of the prestigious scholarships for Indonesian and international students. This is one of the top 10 international scholarships to study abroad, competing with the Chevening, Fullbright, and Australian awards.

This program aims to develop a strong and internationally oriented higher education system in Southeast Asia with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. Scholarships are awarded for development-related master's or doctoral studies for individuals planning to pursue a career in teaching or research at Southeast Asian institutions of higher learning.

After giving an overview of the lecture process and the DAAD scholarship program to UNHAS academics, it was followed by a discussion and question and answer session. The participants, dominated by UNHAS lecturers and students, actively asked several questions of the speakers.
