Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - Asia Green Capital (AGC), through its subsidiary Energi Angin Indonesia, will invest Rp4.26 billion, some US$320 million, to build two wind power plants in Jeneponto district, South Sulawesi province.

"While Jeneponto Power Plant 1 will have a capacity of 62.5 megawatts and an investment of US$120 million, Jeneponto Power Plant 2 will have a capacity of 100 megawatts with investment of US$200 million," Director of Project Development of AGC Thijs Sablerolle said here on Monday.

Jeneponto 1 will have 25 towers, while Jeneponto 2 will have 40, he added.

"Six months ago, we conducted a survey on wind speed, environment, socio-economic conditions, and bio-engineering aspects," Sablerolle stated.

AGC chose Jeneponto as the site to establish a wind power station because winds in the region reach a speed of 8 meter per second and blow all year round.

"The wind from the south and east directions blow throughout the year," Sablerolle affirmed.

Moreover, AGC is currently negotiating with state-owned electricity firm PLN over prices and is aiming to commence construction by 2016, he pointed out.

"The construction of these two power plants will take one year. We plan to bring them into operation by 2017," Sablerolle noted, adding that the construction of the access roads and towers will require an area of 100 hectares.

Furthermore, Governor of South Sulawesi Syahrul Yasin Limpo supports the project.

"As South Sulawesi has entered the era of downstream industries, there should be ample supply of electricity. Three smelters and two cement plants are set to be built here, as well," Limpo revealed.
