Press Workers Asked to Help Solve Security Problem

Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked press workers to help solve order and security problems in the community.
"I ask press workers to help find the best possible solution to the order and security problems because they have their code of ethics on things which are newsworthy," President Yudhoyono said during his one-day working visit to Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of an all-Indonesia governors' working meeting, the president admitted that social conflicts had frequently occurred in the past two years.
"Therefore the press has a very important role to create social harmony and public order," the president said, adding that with its code of ethics, the press was expected to help muffle the social conflicts, instead of triggering them to linger on.
In this regard, the president said that the effort to create social harmony and public order should also be included in information technological products such as on-line social network.
The head of state said that when a social conflict occurred, the related parties, especially regional governments should immediately prevent it from spreading wide.
President Yudhoyono arrived in Makassar on Tuesday morning to officially open all-Indonesia governors' working meeting to
discuss efforts to strengthen central and regional synergy in governance.
Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi in his address said the governors working meeting was conducted to follow up President Yudhoyono's directives at a governors coordinating meeting at the Bogor presidential palace recently.
Gamawan said the governors would also discuss a number of issues including ways to deal with heightening social conflicts and improve local government performance.
The governors working meeting will last until Wednesday, October 20, 2010.
Besides opening the governors working meeting, the president will also dedicate a number of infrastructure facilities such as Andi Mattalata ferry port in Garongkong, Barru district, Pamatata seaport in Selayar district, Sultan Hasanuddin international airport, Lagalilog airport in Luwu district, and Trans Studo Mall and Theme Park projects in Makassar.
