Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) will soon set up an Investor Protection Fund to secure investors' investment in the stock exchange, IDX marketing division chief Fahmin Amirullah said.

The Fund will also act as a bank customers' shelter under the Deposit Insurance Corporation (DIC), he said here Tuesday.

He said one of the challenges ahead was to prepare IDX guarantor institutions that would protect the interests of investors who buy or hold shares in certain companies when the companies they had invested in went bankrupt.

So far, when a company goes bankrupt all of its assets would be calculated to pay its corporate debts, If there still was a receivables excess it would be distributed proportionally to shareholders.

"With the existence of a guarantor institution, investors would be assured of their shares if the company they have invested in goes bankrupt," he said.

On the same occasion, the head of Business Development of PT Indonesian Central Securities Depository (KSEI) Edy Prabowo, said the recent formation of a service to the investor is the existence of Reference Securities Ownership (AKSes) facilities.

"Through this facility, investors can see directly the effect of ownership records via the internet as the embodiment of transparency of reliable capital markets," he said.

Regarding to the KSEI's role, he said, private companies in which IDX acts as one of its shareholders, serve to store and settle securities traded on the Stock Exchange and outside the Stock Exchange.

"With the investor's guarantor institution in the future, KSEI will complement the agency," he said.
