Makassar (ANTARA) - The Department of Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), through its Master of Public Administration Program, participated in the International Seminar on Social Innovation in Glocation Tourism organized by the Management of Development College, Thaksin University, Thailand, on Tuesday, 13 May 2025. The event brought together academics from across ASEAN and served as an important platform for exchanging ideas and cross-border research findings.
Held in Bangkok, the seminar was also attended by lecturers and students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). UNHAS delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Gita Susanti, Head of the Master of Public Administration Program, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Alwi, Head of the Department of Administrative Sciences at FISIP UNHAS. Also present were Dr. Sulaiman Mappiasse, Andi Ahmad Yani, M.Si., MPA., M.Sc., Irma Ariyanti Arif, S.Sos., M.Si., and Nuralamsyah Ismail, S.Sos., MA. In addition, 20 students from the Master of Public Administration and Master of Political Science programs also participated in the event.

During the presentation sessions, the keynote speaker from UNHAS, Dr. Sulaiman Mappiasse, presented his research on the internationalization of education in the ASEAN region. He emphasized the importance of solidarity and collaboration among ASEAN countries to enhance human resource quality, rather than focusing solely on inter-university competition.
From UMT, one of the keynote speakers, Dr. Rohana Binti Ahmad from the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Social Development, presented a paper comparing tourism policies in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. She highlighted how differing policy approaches influence the success of each country's tourism sector.
In the student presentation session, Arif Aprilia Jaya Ganda Irman, a Master's student in Public Administration at FISIP UNHAS, shared his study comparing tourism sector adaptation strategies during the COVID-19 era between Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. His presentation emphasized the varying policy responses and their impacts on tourism recovery efforts.
