Jakarta (ANTARA Sulsel) - Vice President Jusuf M. Kalla (JK) is keen to develop Malino in Tinggimoncong Sub-district, Gowa District, South Sulawesi, into a botanical garden that could serve as a tourist destination, District Head Adnan Purichta Ichsan stated.

"To realize the plan, Malino will be developed based on a botanical garden concept," Ichsan noted here, Thursday.

The Gowa district head had attended a meeting on the previous day at the vice presidential office. Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Forestry and Environmental Affairs Minister Siti Nurbaya, and South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo were among those present at the meeting.

Malino has, so far, been known for its tourism, flora, agriculture, horticulture, and forests.

At the meeting, Mr JK said the development concept to be used in Malino is that of a botanical garden in order to promote it as a flower city.

Local residents will be encouraged to plant various varieties of flowers and not only orchids and chrysanthemums in their yards, he remarked.

A joint team to be supervised by the agriculture minister, the forestry minister, and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences will be formed to follow up on the plan.
