Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Indonesia needs to increase its economic growth in the tertiary sector to make it equal with the economy of the advanced countries.
Director of trading service negotiations of the trade ministry's international trade cooperation directorate general Sondang Anggraini said here Friday that in this case the trade of services is playing a very important role in the economy.
She said the role of the service sector in the advanced countries has reached more than 70 pct of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and an average of 60 pct in emerging market countries.
"In Indonesia, the role of the services sector had reached 40 pct, and needs to be raised to make it equal with those of the advanced countries," she said.
She said that changes in the economic sector into those of an advanced country could be achieved if their main primary sectors properly are growing by 7.8 to 8.3 pct per year, secondary sector 12.6 pct to 13.1 pct per year, and the tertiary sector by 13.4 to 13.9 pct per year.
The tertiary sector is the economic sector based on the added value gained from the precessing of information, creative capacity, organization and coordination between people not producing in physical form, but in the form of services.
"These sectors cover the trade of business, hotels and restaurants, transportation, communications, finance and services," she said.(T.SYS/S012)
