Barru, South Sulawesi, (Antara Sulsel)- The Bosowa Group broke the ground on Thursday to mark the start of the construction of a cement port and packing plant and other facilities in Barru, South Sulawesi.

Chief Economics Minister Hatta Rajasa made official the ceremony attended by leaders of the company group including its founder HM Aksa Mahmud, CEO of Bosowa Erwin Aksa.

Erwin said the Rp700 billion project include construction of a jetty to facilitate shipment of clinker, quays for ship or barge for cement shipment , warehouses, cement packing plant and silos.

"The new facilities would cope with long queuing in cement and clinker loading into ships for exports especially distribution of clinker to Bosowa`s cement factories in other areas in the country," he said.

He said the facilities will require expansion of cement industry outside Makassar , around 107 kilometer west of the city or 5 kilometers from Barru Desa and 60 kilometers from the Bosowa cement factory in Maros, South Sulawesi.

He said four cement silos would be built in the area each with capacity of 20,000 ton. The facilities would be used to keep cement from the Bosowa cement factory before being shipped to other areas or countries.
