Hasanuddin University Welcomes the Visit of the United States Consul General Surabaya Indonesia
Makassar (ANTARA) - Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) welcomed the visit of the United States of America (USA) Consul General Surabaya, Indonesia on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Rector Meeting Room, 8th Floor of Rectorate Building.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc (Rector) accompanied by Prof. Dr. Phil. Sukri, M.Si (dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Muhammad Ridwan, M.A. (International Office Secretary), Dr. Eng Zulkifli Tahir, S.T., M.Sc (Head of Sub-Directorate of International Partnership) and Dra. Harniaty Hamid (Head of Foreign Relation Division) welcomed the Consul General delegation including Christopher R. Green (US Consul general) was accompanied by John McDaniel (Political and Economic Chief), Kezia Saudale (Political and Economic Assistant) and Arieshadela Irwantini (Press and Media Coordinator).
Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa well known as Prof. JJ explained a number of issues to the Consul including how UNHAS has been in cooperation with several higher education institutions namely the University of Rhode Islands, Northern Illinois University.
He also described UNHAS participation in the National Association of Foreign Students Advisers (NAFSA) Conference in Washington Dc in 2023. NAFSA is the association of international educators in which Prof. JJ conducted a series of meetings with potential partners in making UNHAS more globally recognized.
Meanwhile, the Consul explained his visit in UNHAS, Makassar as he is still new in the position and wishes to reach out to US Consulate General Office partners existing in the eastern part of Indonesia.
He described several parties working on the developing education in Indonesia including United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and education USA (edUSA).
This moment, Muhammad Ridwan (International Office Secretary) with the permission of Prof. JJ added the Consul explanation that UNHAS International Office (IO) has been working with edUSA.
The adviser of edUSA comes to the IO every second Thursday of ongoing month to give the Thursday Pop-up Advising for UNHAS academic community.
The visit ended with token exchange. Both parties presented a unique thing. UNHAS in particular presented chocolate produced by UNHAS Teaching Industry and the Consul staff was truly impressed and asked to take the chocolate with her.
Prof. JJ and the Consul also exchanged the contact number for further communication in a very casual setting. The Consul warmly welcomed the offer from Prof. JJ and the visit ended.
