Elections - "Red Beret" Volunteers Declare Support For Prabowo-Hatta
"In order to bring victory to the Prabowo-Hatta pair, all success teams and volunteers must work extra hard," Prabowo-Hatta pair spokesman Tantowi Yahya remarked in Jakarta on Sunday.
Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - Hundreds of volunteers of the so-called "Red Beret" group have declared their support for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Hatta Rajasa.
"Red Beret volunteers will implement their own strategy to ensure the victory of Prabowo-Hatta in 24 districts and cities in South Sulawesi. The presence of Red Beret volunteers will strengthen the position of Prabowo-Hatta in South Sulawesi," La Tinro La Tunrung of Prabowo-Hatta`s Success Team noted here on Monday.
The volunteers, mostly from the Democratic Party, decided to support Prabowo Subianto since they considered the presidential candidate to be a strong and capable leader.
Earlier, La Tunrung inaugurated another volunteer group called "Gemah Praja" comprising members of 22 mass organizations and several labor unions in South Sulawesi.
Meanwhile, volunteers and supporters of the Prabowo-Hatta presidential and vice presidential candidate duo were urged to work hard in order to bring victory to the pair in the upcoming July 9 presidential election.
"In order to bring victory to the Prabowo-Hatta pair, all success teams and volunteers must work extra hard," Prabowo-Hatta pair spokesman Tantowi Yahya remarked in Jakarta on Sunday.
Yahya stated that the headquarters of Prabowo`s success team in Jakarta has been receiving support from the public on a daily basis for the Prabowo-Hatta presidential and vice presidential candidates.
Indonesia will organize a free and democratic presidential election on July 9, 2014, which will be contested by only two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla.
The campaign period is between June 4 and July 5, 2014.
Prabowo Subianto is a retired military general and the chairman of Gerindra (Great Indonesia Movement) Party, while his running mate, Hatta Rajasa, is a former coordinating minister for economic affairs and the chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN).
Joko Widodo is the governor of Jakarta and a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla, is a former vice president and a senior politician of the Golkar Party. Bessr/Fardah Assegaf
