Makassar (ANTARA) - As part of the Friday Outbound Clinic organized by the International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), a scholarship information session was successfully held with a presentation by Ms. La Budza from the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – German Academic Exchange Service) Representative Office in Jakarta.
The event was held on Friday, 20 June 2025, and Attended by nearly 50 participants from various faculties. This session aimed to introduce DAAD’s diverse scholarship opportunities and guide potential applicants from UNHAS in navigating the application process. The session was moderated by Khaeruddin,Ph.D, a member of the IO task force.
DAAD, as one of the world’s most prominent organizations supporting international academic exchange, offers a wide range of fully funded scholarships for postgraduate studies, doctoral research, and postdoctoral fellowships in Germany.
One of the highlighted programs during the session was the Postgraduate Scholarships in STEM Fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), which are open to Indonesian graduates with strong academic records. This scholarship allows applicants to choose up to five masters programs in Germany and requires a minimum GPA of 3.2 and proof of English proficiency (TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0). The deadline for this program is 21 October 2025.
Another key program introduced was the Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS), which supports both Master's and Doctoral programs in 39 fields such as Economic Sciences, Development Cooperation, Engineering, Urban Planning, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Public Health, Social Sciences, and Media Studies. This program is particularly relevant for professionals seeking to apply their expertise toward sustainable development goals.
The session also highlighted the Helmut Schmidt Programme, a highly competitive scholarship for Master’s studies in the fields of public policy and good governance. This program supports studies in areas such as Social Protection, Development and Governance, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Management in Non-Profit Organizations, aiming to empower future leaders in governance and development.
For early-career researchers, DAAD also provides Research Grants for PhD candidates and Young Postdoctoral Researchers. These grants support research stays in Germany ranging from 2 to 12 months for PhD students (maximum in their third year of study) and 2 to 6 months for recent postdocs (PhD completed within the last four years). This scheme is available for applicants from Indonesia and Malaysia, with upcoming deadlines on 7 October 2025 (for funding starting in May 2026) and 3 April 2026 (for funding starting in July 2026).
The information session provided detailed guidance on how to prepare competitive applications, including how to write a convincing motivation letter, select study programs, and meet eligibility criteria. Participants were highly engaged throughout the event, demonstrating strong interest in pursuing academic and research opportunities in Germany.
Overall, this activity is part of UNHAS’s commitment to fostering global academic mobility and building international partnerships. It also reflects the IO’s ongoing efforts to prepare staff and students to engage meaningfully with leading international scholarship opportunities such as those offered by DAAD.
