Eight Killed in Collapsed Wall Fence

Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Eight people were killed after the giant wall fence of Villa Mutiara housing complex in Makassar, South Sulawesi, collapsed and fell on them at 02.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Data from the South and West Sulawesi provincial police show the dead victims were identified as Dg Jarre (40), Fitri (9), Ipul (9), Dama (32), Dipa (5), Dg Sarro (60), Hadiah (26) and Sitti.

Dg Jarre and Fitri died at Ibnu Sina hospital, while Ipul, Damang, Dipa, and Dg Sarro died at Bhayangkara police hospital.

Meanwhile, Hadiah died at Islam Faisal hospital and Siti died in the scene.

At least seven people were injured in the accident. They are Dg Maha (82), Ika (6), Maya (50) who are now being treated at Ibnu Sina hospital, and Wati (30), Fasya (5) and Haba (40) who are being treated at Wahidin Sudiro Husodo hospital.

Salma who was treated at Islam Faisal hospital was allowed to return home after his health condition was improving.

The 10-meter high and 30-meter wide wall fence collapsed when heavy rain was falling on the area.

Local legislator Adi Rasyid Ali said the real estate developer of the housing complex must be held responsible for the accident at least by providing compensation to the bereaved.(b003/S012)
