Garuda To Open Makassar-Palembang Direct Flight

Makassar, S Sulawesi (Antaranews) - Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will open a direct flight from Makassar (South Sulawesi) to Palembang (South Sumatra) round trip on Jan 17, 2018, with flight number GA274.

"The opening of this new flight route is part of efforts to improve Garuda`s service to customers," Garuda Indonesia?s Deputy President of Region IV, I Wayan Supatrayasa, stated here on Tuesday.

He added that in addition to improving customer service, this direct flight is also aimed at strengthening Garuda`s connectivity and airline network between the western parts and the eastern parts of the country.

"The initial flight is scheduled on Wednesday (Jan 17) from Makassar at 17:55 local time and will arrive in Palembang at 19:35 local time. Meanwhile, flight GA275 will take off from Palembang at 20:15 local time and arrive in Makassar at 23:55 local time," Supatrayasa explained.

The Makassar-Palembang flight will use CRJ Bombardier 1000 NextGen, which can accommodate 96 passengers. The flight is available four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Previously, Garuda Indonesia had also opened direct flights from Makassar to other parts of central and western Indonesia, including Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara) and Medan (North Sumatra).

"We hope these direct flights can strengthen Makassar as Garuda Indonesia`s hub in eastern Indonesia," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia`s Sales & Service Manager Branch Office Makassar, Agung Gunawan, added that Garuda Indonesia strengthens connectivity in intra-Sulawesi region.

"Connectivity in the intra-Sulawesi area includes Makassar-Palopo, Luwuk-Palu, and Kendari-Wakatobi route, which have been available in Dec 2017," he added.

The new direct flight is also expected to help accelerate the development of tourism destinations in the country?s eastern and western parts.
